About the Shul
Mesa Shul Santa Barbara is Santa Barbara’s traditional congregation, with roots in the community going back to at least the early 1970s. Originally affiliated with the National Council of Young Israel, in 2020 the Mesa Shul became an independent traditional congregation and moved to the premises of the Jewish Federation of Greater Santa Barbara in 2021. Mesa Shul Santa Barbara welcomes families and individuals of all ages. We encourage everyone, from one month to 120 years old, to be a part of our community.
Services are held on Shabbat, High Holydays and Chagim, and when requested for Yartzheit observances. Friday night dinners are held monthly, usually on the first Friday of the month. Contact us for the weekly registration if you’d like to join us for Shabbat services!
While Mesa Shul Santa Barbara maintains and follows the traditional orthodox ritual and Torah service, it does not have a mechitzah but does have separate seating for women and men. Where permissible by halachah, women participate in the service reading inspirational texts and drashs but not leading the service.
The Mesa Shul’s message to the Santa Barbara Jewish community: COME FOR SERVICES, AND STAY FOR THE KIDDUSH AND THE SCHMOOZING!
